John Altobelli is an American baseball coach who unfortunately became famous upon his tragic death, alongside basketball star Kobe Bryant, in early 2020.
Family Life
His wife was named Keri Altobelli. They had three children together – J.J., Alexis, and the late Alyssa.
Achievements
He served as head coach of Orange Coast College’s (California) baseball team for 27 seasons, longer than any of his predecessors.
During his tenure he led the team to four state championships.
He also was named Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year five times, in addition to State Coach of the Year twice.
Trivia
He had a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a master’s degree in Education.
He was associated with Kobe Bryant as his daughter, Alyssa, played in Kobe’s Mamba Sports Academy youth-basketball program.
He, his wife and daughter died alongside Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, as well as four others via a helicopter crash which occurred on 26 January 2020.
