About Yannick Noah
Yannick Noah began his career as a tennis player at the age of 11 years after he was unearthed by renowned tennis stars Charlie Pasarell and Arthur Ashe. His performance earned him a spot at a training center in Nice which was organized by the French Tennis Federation in 1971.
Six years later, he played his first professional game and recorded his maiden singles title in 1978.
Career highlights
Throughout his career which lasted for over 20 years, Noah won 23 titles as a solo player, and 16 with a partner. He gained international attention after winning the 1983 French Open. Three years later, he was ranked number three by the Association of Tennis Professionals. He has been named the captain of France’s Fed Cup and Davis Cup teams.
Music career
After retiring from the game, has pursued a career in music. He introduced himself with an album in 1991 titled “Black or What”, which contained one of his popular singles "Saga Africa". By the end of 2019, he had released a total of twelve albums.
Personal Life
His dad, Zacharie Noah played professional soccer for Cameroon. His mother Marie-Claire was a basketball player for France. His marriage to Swiss model Cécilia Rodhe produced two children including NBA star Joakim Noah.
He has three children with Heather Stewart-Whyte. They are Joalukas, Elijah and Jénayé. The latter is a well-known model.
Achievements
He was honored with the ATP Sportsmanship Award in 1986. Six years later, he was given the Legion of Honour prize. He became an International Tennis Hall of Famer in 2005, and was the recipient of the Philippe Chatrier Award that same year.
Trivia
He confessed that he took marijuana ahead of a game in 1981.
He is the co-founder of the charity organization called Enfants de la Terre, alongside his mum.
