He was a Spanish musical icon who was a bandleader, screenwriter, actor, director and instrumentalist.
Personal Life
At birth, he was named Francisco de Asis Javier Cugat Mingall de Bru y Deulofeu and was interested in music since he was very little. By the time he was nine years old, he featured as a violinist in a silent movie which helped him settle his school fees. When he got older, he met Rita Montana who he married in 1918 but two years later, they decided to divorce. In 1929, he made Carmen Castillo his wife but that marriage did not survive. He went on to marry Lorraine Allen and then divorced her, he got married to Abbe Lane and that marriage lasted for eleven years. In 1966, he married Charo and ended the marriage in 1978.
Career
He got a job with Los Angeles Times as a cartoonist since he was good at sketching caricatures. He worked on music that was used in films like “A Date With Judy”, “Week-End at the Waldorf” and “You Were Never Lovelier”.
Death
He suffered from heart failure and passed on in 1990.
