About Wilson Pickett
Celebrated American singer Wilson Pickett started as a church singer before coming into the limelight. He began as a member of the gospel group known as Violinaires in 1955 before joining the Falcons four years later. During his time with the latter, he performed alongside Sir Mack Rice and Eddie Floyd.
The American singer gained national and global fame for his numerous chart-topping singles which included "In the Midnight Hour", "Don't Knock My Love" and "634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.)". Throughout his 50 years in the music scene, he released over 20 studio and live albums with perhaps the most popular one titled “The Sound of Wilson Pickett”
Legal issues
He was arrested in 1991 for drunk driving. The charges were dropped after he accepted to perform in a benefit musical concert. The following year, he was jailed for one year after hitting an elderly woman with his car. In 1996, he was grabbed again for an assault on Elizabeth Trapp, his then girlfriend.
Family
He had 10 other siblings. He was survived by four kids.
Honors
In 1991, he was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Two years later, the Rhythm and Blues Foundation honored him with their Pioneer Award.
