About William Golding
William Golding was a renowned British author and poet who has contributed so much to literature. He is mostly remembered for his novel, "Lord of the Flies" - which plots around a group of boys who got stranded on an uninhabited island, but must survive by all means necessary. His success earned him the third spot on The Times' "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945" list in 2008. Some of his works were titled "The Inheritors" (1954), "The Brass Butterfly" (1958), "Darkness Visible" (1979), and "An Egyptian Journal" (1985).
Family Life
His parents were Alec Golding and Mildred Curnoe. He had a brother named Joseph. He was initially engaged to Molly Evans. He married analytical chemist, Ann Brookfield in 1939, and both remained married till his death in 1993. His children were David and Judith Golding.
Achievements
His work, "Rites of Passage" earned him the Booker Prize in 1980. He also received a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
In 1979, he won the "James Tait Black Memorial Prize" for the novel titled "Darkness Visible". He was given a Knight Bachelor in 1988.
Death
He unexpectedly died of heart failure in 1993.
