Background
Raised in suburban Irvine, California, Will Ferrell read sports journalism at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree, he was hired to present sports on a local cable. He later acquired a year’s training in acting.
“Saturday Night Live”
His refreshing and exuberant energy made him a regular face on the American TV show “Saturday Night Live”. He was especially loved for his excellent imitation of TV personalities and other celebrities. As a host of SNL, he scored acting gigs on films such as 1999's “Dick” and 2001, “Zoolander.”
Other Career Facts
In 2002, he closed the curtains on SNL and pursued full time acting. He played the lead role in Favreau's 2003 film “Elf” which was a box office hit. Three years later, he played the character of a Nazi dramatist in “The Producers”, a musical comedy.
Other film credits of Ferrell include“Land of the Lost,” “Stranger than Fiction” and “Everything Must Go”.
Also a voice actor, he joined the cast of animated films and voiced such characters as the tyrant in 2014’s “The LEGO Movie” and the hedge-fund manager in 2015’s “Get Hard.” Many screen appearances later, he starred as Paul Rudd in the 2021 series “The Shrink Next Door.”
Controversy
His “Get Hard” film was splattered with controversy, thanks to a racial “joke" he made in the movie. He, however, insisted he was not being offensive.

He has been nominated multiple times for a Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globes and Tony Award.
Personal Life
He got married to Swedish actress Viveca Paulin with whom he shares 3 children.
