About Werner Blumenthal
Werner Blumenthal’s life has been nothing short of interesting. He spent his early years as a refugee during World War II and rose to become a prominent businessman and politician.
Early Life
Blumenthal was born in Germany to Ewald and Rose Blumenthal. His father, Ewald, owned a clothing store that was seized by the Nazis. The family eventually fled to Shanghai, China to live with other refugees. Eventually, Blumenthal and his sister arrived in the US as refugees and he attended the University of California and later received his master’s and PhD at Princeton University.
Career
He worked briefly in academia before switching to business. He later worked under the government of President John F. Kennedy in 1961 and later returned to the business world in 1967 to head the manufacturing company, Bendex. Blumenthal also worked in President Jimmy Carter’s administration.
Awards
Blumenthal received the International Center in New York’s Award of Excellence. He was made an honorary citizen in Berlin and also has honorary degrees from several US universities.
