Early Life & School
Born in Richmond, Indiana, he studied at Morton High School and later at Miami University in Oxford.
Coaching Career
He coached the 1954 Baltimore Colts during the first 9 years of his National Football League coaching career. He led the team to the NFL title in 1958 and 1959. The Colts incredible win against the Giants in the 1958 Championship is regarded as the competition that heralded the sports into mainstream America. In the final 11 years of his coaching career, he guided the New York Jets.
Ewbank is applauded as the only coach who nurtured two young teams into becoming world champions.
Accolades
He was welcomed into the Miami University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969 and into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1978.
