About Walter Mondale
Before Walter Frederick Mondale became known as the 42nd Vice President of the United States under Jimmy Carter’s administration, he had occupied various public offices in his native state, Minnesota. From 1960 to 1964, he occupied the office of Attorney General of Minnesota.
He also represented Minnesota in the United States Senate from 1964 to 1976. He ran unsuccessfully for the 1984 United States presidential election on the ticket of the Democratic Party.
Family Life
His mother, Claribel, taught music part-time and his father, Theodore Mondale, was a Methodist minister. He was married to Joan Mondale from 1955 until her death in 2014. The couple were parents to three children.
Achievements
For his brain health awareness programmes following his wife and daughters’ deaths, he was honored with a Public Leadership in Neurology Award in 2015.
Trivia
He taught part-time at the School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota.
