Walter Matthau was an Academy Award-winning American comedic actor remembered for starring in films such as 1966's The Fortune Cookie, 1968's The Odd Couple, 1974's The Front Page and 1975'sThe Sunshine Boys. In addition to his work in motion picture, he also won acclaim for his television and stage work.
Personal Life
He was married twice. His first marriage was to Grace Johnson, with whom he had two children: David and Jenny. His second and final marriage was to actress and author Carol Marcus. He and Carol had a son named Charlie Matthau, who grew up to become a film and television director and actor.
Trivia
Throughout his adult life, he struggled with a severe addiction to gambling, which saw him lose millions of dollars.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and fought in World War II.
