About Vladimir Horowitz
Vladimir Horowitz was a Russian-American classical pianist and composer. He started taking piano lessons at the prestigious Kyiv Conservatory when he was just 12 years old and eight years later, he performed his first solo recital.
Following his recital tours in Russia, he moved to Berlin, Germany in December 1925 thus beginning his domination of the west. He performed extensively in Europe and the United States. His live performance recordings for the record labels Columbia, RCA and Deutsche Grammophon remain very popular.
Family Life
He was raised as the last of four children born to Sophia Bodik and Samuil Horowitz, an electrical engineer and electric motor distributor. He became the son-in-law of Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini through his 1933 marriage to his daughter, Wanda. They had one daughter together named Sonia.
Achievements
He was the recipient of over 20 Grammy Awards, including one for Lifetime Achievement. He is a Gramophone Hall of Fame inductee.
Death
He died from a heart attack on November 5, 1989.
