About Victor Borge
Victor Borge was the stage name of the Danish comedian, classical pianist and conductor Borge Rosenbaum. It was his ability to effortlessly combine comedy with music during his performances that got him nicknames such as “The Crown Prince of Denmark”, “The Great Dane” and “The Unmelancholy Dane”.
A child prodigy pianist, he performed his first recital at age eight and earned a Royal Danish Academy of Music scholarship at nine years old. He left occupied Denmark for the United States in 1940 and began performing on radio the following year. He was famous on both radio and television.
Family Life
He was the son of violist Bernhard Rosenbaum and pianist Frederikke Lichtinger. He had two children with his first wife, Elsie Chilton and three with his second, Sarabel Scraper, who predeceased him by just three months.
Achievements
He was honored with the Kennedy Center Honors, Order of the Falcon, St. Olav’s Medal, Order of the Dannebrog, Order of the White Rose of Finland and the Order of Vasa.
