About Vern Stephens
He is an eight-time All-star baseball icon. Vern Stephens was regarded as being as good as or even better than any of his legendary contemporaries like Marty Marion and Pee Wee Reese. As a power hitter and shortstop, he was indeed a force to be reckoned with.
Career
He began playing baseball in the American Legion at the age of 13. He joined the St. Louis Browns in 1941, making his MLB (Major League Debut) debut after one season of junior college. He participated in his first All-Star Game in 1943, the first of three he would attend while a Brown. He placed fourth in the MVP voting during his first full season, which was 1942.
After the 1947 season, he was dealt to the Boston Red Sox, where he would play in four straight All-Star Games. However in 1953, after a brief run with the Chicago White Sox, he rejoined the Browns.
In recognition of his contribution to the game, he was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
Death
The baseball player passed away in 1968, aged 48. The cause of death was a heart attack.
Personal Life
He went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School and Long Beach Junior College. He tied the knot with Harriet Bernice Hood.
