About Vangelis
Vangelis was the professional name of Greek composer and musician Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. He rose to international fame for his composition of scores for films such as “Chariots of Fire”, “Alexander” and “Blade Runner”. He started out as a performer in bands in the 1960s. His music composition genres included electronic, jazz, progressive and orchestral.
Family Life
He grew up in Athens, Greece. He was born to an amateur sprinter called Odysseus. He had a brother called Nikos. He had very private personal life, in spite of his fame. It is believed, however, that he has been married twice and has no children.
Achievements
He received an Oscar for “Best Original Score” for his “Chariots of Fire” soundtrack. He was honored with NASA’s Public Service Medal and France’s “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters”.
Trivia
He played in the bands Aphrodite’s Child and The Forminx.
He loved to paint.
Cause of Death
The legendary Greek composer lost his life through heart failure. He died in Paris.
