About Tugay Kerimoğlu
Tugay Kerimoglu spent most of his football career playing for Galatasaray and Blackburn Rovers in the Turkish and English football leagues, respectively. Throughout his 23-year career, he was noted for his impressive playing skills and was regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Club Career
Turkish-born Kerimoglu got his start in football by playing for Galatasaray from 1987 to 2000, helping his team win the Turkish League 6 times, as well as becoming four-time Turkey Cup champions. In 1992, he was appointed captain, a position that made him the youngest ever captain in the club’s history.
In 2001, he transferred to Blackburn Rovers and quickly became a fan favorite. Kerimoglu was named Player of the Year in the 2003/2004 season.
International Career
He also represented Turkey in many international tournaments, including Euro 1996, Euro 2006, and the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where the team placed third. All in all, he was capped 94 times for his country, scoring two goals in those caps.
Personal Life
Kerimoglu married Etkin and has two children, Berke and Melissa.
