About Tommy Lasorda
Thomas Charles Lasorda worked in the Major League Baseball as a player, coach and then as a manager. He made his league debut in 1954 for the Los Angeles Dodgers (then known as the Brooklyn Dodgers). He also played for the MLB’s Kansas City Athletics in 1956.
After a 13-year career as a manager and coach in various minor leagues, he returned to the MLB as a coach for the Dodgers in 1973. He is remembered best for being the Dodgers’ manager from 1976 to 1996.
Family Life
He was the second of his parents’ five sons. He married Jo Lasorda in 1950. The couple had two children.
Achievements
He has been an inductee (as a manager) of the National Baseball Hall of Fame since 1997. He was the National League’s “Manager of the Year” in 1983 and 1988.
Death
He died at the age of 93 on January 7, 2021, from cardiac arrest.
