About Tom Harkin
Hailing from U. S. A., Tom Harkin is a lawyer, politician as well as author. From 1985 to 2015, he was the U. S. senator from Iowa.
Career
Before Harkin launched his political career, he served in the United States Navy for five years (1962 to 1967) performing the duties of an active-duty jet pilot. Prior to the position as a Senator, Harkin served from 1975 to 1985 as the United States representative for Iowa's 5th congressional district.
In 1989, he retired as a commander. In 1990, he published a book titled “Five Minutes to Midnight: Why the Nuclear Threat Is Growing Faster Than Ever” alongside Thomas, C. E.
He had served on several committees including the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Committee on Appropriations, and Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
Education
He was educated at Dowling Catholic High School, Iowa State University and The Catholic University of America.
Family
He is the offspring of Patrick Francis Harkin and Franciska Frances Valentine. He has five siblings including Frances, Slovenia and Marija. In 1968, he tied the knot with Ruth Raduenz. He has given birth to two children named Amy Harkin Goodrich and Jenny Harkin.
