Born Thomas Charles Sanders, British actor Tom Conway made his debut in the 1940 film “Waterloo Bridge”. He followed it up with several minor roles until 1942 when he got his big break through the crime drama film “The Falcon’s Brother”. Throughout his over 2-decade career, he was known for taking on roles as a private detective or a psychiatrist.
Family Life
He was the older brother of the late actor George Sanders. He also had a younger sister called Margaret. In 1958, he married English actress and singer Queenie Leonard. She divorced him in 1963 because of his issues with alcoholism. His first wife was Lillian Eggers, whom he was married to from 1941 to 1953.
Death
In the few years leading to his death, in April 1967, he had gone penniless and struggled with alcoholism and poor eyesight. He died of liver cirrhosis.
