About Tom Boonen
Tom Boonen is a Belgian retired cyclist who won the Tour of Qatar tournament on four different occasions. He competed in the Tour de France competition for many years and won six stages before retiring in 2017. Other competitions that he excelled in include the World Ports Classic, Paris–Roubaix and the World Road Race Championships.
During his active days, he worked with some highly-rated teams such as the Quick-Step Floors and the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team.
International career
On the international stage, Boonen represented his country at the UCI Road World Championships. He won a gold medal at the 2005 and 2012 editions of the competition.
Family
He has a set of twins named Jacqueline and Valentine with a lady named Lore.
Achievements
In 2012, he won his third Belgian Sportsman of the Year award. He has also been named Belgian Sports Personality of the Year and has also received the Belgian National Sports Merit Award.
Trivia
Aside from cycling, he’s also known to be a car driver and has participated in a number of NASCAR events.
He made his professional cycling debut in 2002.
