About Tito Puente
Tito Puente was a very prominent entertainer in the United States during the 1950s. Admired for his Caribbean and Afro-Cuban songs, the American singer was famously known for his 1962 single titled "Oye Como Va". In 1958, he recorded arguably his most famous studio album which was entitled “Dance Mania”.
He developed a love for music at an early age and was sent to a piano class by his mum to develop his skills. He later formed a music group with his sister before joining the music group of jazz singer Machito.
Family
His original name was Ernest Anthony Puente Jr., and grew up under the guidance of his parents Felicia and Ernest Puente. His sister was called Anna. Between 1963 and 2000, he was married to a lady called Margaret Asencio, and together they raised three kids named Richard, Audrey, and Tito Jr.
Awards
He was decorated with many laurels including the Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and National Medal of Arts. He became a member of the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
Death
In 2000, during one of his Puerto Rico shows, he suffered a heart attack. After undergoing a heart valve repairing surgery, he developed some complications and gave up the ghost later that year.

He performed alongside many musicians including Sonny Stitt and Quincy Jones.
