The Pennsylvania-born Major League Baseball player had a playing career of nearly a decade and a half, playing for teams such as the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cleveland Indians.
Playing Career
He made his first MLB appearance on April 17, 1956, for the Baltimore Orioles and played there for a season. He played for Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers in 1958 and moved to Cleveland Indians for the 1959 – 1964 seasons. He replaced Jim Piersall as the team's starting center fielder in a June 7 doubleheader. Francona played with the St. Louis Cardinals for the next season before moving to play with Philadelphia Phillies in 1967. He spent his final 1970 season with the Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers, making his last appearance on September 29, 1970.
Honors
