About Tino Martinez
Constantino "Tino" Martinez, who was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the 1988 amateur draft out of the University of Tampa, has come a long way to establish himself in Major League Baseball, having played for teams like the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1990 to 2005.
Early Life
He and his brothers used to work in their father's cigar factory. After attending Tampa Catholic High School, he switched to Tampa Jefferson High School.
In the 1980s, he married Marie Prado, with whom he has three children.
Career
He was selected in the 1988 amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners. His career took off in 1995 when he hit 31 home runs and drove in 111 runs after a string of lackluster seasons.
From 1996 to 2001, he played for the New York Yankees as they earned four World Series victories. During the 2001–2003 season, he transferred to the St. Louis Cardinals.
For the 2005 season, he came back for a second stint with the Yankees. Martinez played in the Major Leagues for more than a decade and a half, batting.271 with 339 home runs and 1,271 RBI.
