A dynamic Democrat from Ohio, Tim Ryan was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and has been re-elected for at least 10 terms. He made waves in 2016 when he challenged Nancy Pelosi for House speaker.
Early Life
Born in Niles, he graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.A. degree in political science and from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Political Career
His journey into politics began as an aide for Ohio's representative Jim Traficant.
He later sat on the House Appropriations Committee and has also served on the Defense Subcommittee Military Construction, Budget Committee and as the chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee.
Before his election to the House in 2003, he served in the Ohio Senate from 2001 to 2002, representing the 32nd district.
Family
He exchanged wedding vows with teacher, Andrea Sets Ryan, in a private ceremony in 2013. They went on to have three children.
