About Tim Kaine
Tim Kaine worked as a lawyer before going into politics in 1994. He started his career as a member of Richmond’s City Council before he was elected as the mayor of the city in 1998. Three years later, he was selected to occupy the position of Virginia States’ lieutenant governor.
After serving for four years, he was made the governor of the state. Known to be one of the strongest personalities in the Democratic Party, Kaine was selected by Hillary Clinton as her running mate ahead of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Prior to his nomination, the Minnesota-born politician was voted into the United States Senate in 2013, representing the people of Virginia.
Family
He’s one of the children of Albert Alexander Kaine Jr., and his wife Mary Kathleen Burns, who worked as a teacher. He grew up together with two siblings and got married to Anne Holton in 1984.
Education
After completing Rockhurst High School, this renowned politician enrolled at the University of Missouri to read economics. He later went to Harvard Law School.
Honors
The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities honored him with their Humanitarian Award in 2000. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Center for the National Interest in 2016.
Trivia
At a stage in his life, he worked at the University of Richmond’s School of Law as a lecturer.
During his time as an attorney, he served at the Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court as a judge.
