About Thomas Welch
Thomas Welch was Norfolk County’s first-ever land registrar. He was named to this position in 1796. Four years later, the Canadian attorney was appointed as a district commissioner at the Court of King's Bench. He later became a district judge in 1810.
Military Career
Welch was associated with the British Army throughout the Seven Years' War which began in the 1750s. After the battle, he became a member of the Maryland Loyalists Battalion. He was captured by the Spanish army before 1780. After his release, he settled at New Brunswick with some loyalists.
Family
Francis Leigh Walsh, his son, would succeed him as Norfolk’s land registrar. He was the grandfather of famous politician Aquila Walsh, who would serve in Canada’s House of Commons.
Education
He had most of his education at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

During his time at Charlotteville Township, he worked with a local military group as a captain.
