Trivia
Thomas was the father of 6 children with his beloved wife Martha. Martha died at the young age of 33 and made Thomas promise to never marry again. There is widespread belief that Thomas fathered 10 children with a slave named Sally Hemings.
History
In 1772, Thomas built Monticello, a neoclassical manor, which means ‘little Italy’. It was 5,000 acres which produced tobacco, wheat, and other crops. Thomas was the 1st Secretary of State, serving under President George Washington. He was then 1st Vice President, serving under President John Adams.
