About Thomas Bernhard
The playwright and novelist Nicolaas Thomas Bernhard was highly revered for his work after the battles in WWII. His work encompassed social injustice, human misery and death in the modern world.
Early Life
The playwright was born to Herta Fabjan and Alois Zuckerstatter. Bernhard lived most of his childhood in the Netherlands and began elementary school in Seekirchen.
Career
He published his first novel called "Frost" in 1963. The popularity led him to write other masterpieces such as "Verstörung" in 1967, "Das Kalkwerk " in 1970 and "Korrektur" in 1975. The playwright also published short stories, including famous pieces like "Amras" in 1964, "Gehen" in 1971 and "Goethe schtirbt" in 1980. His plays such as 1977's "Minetti. Ein Portrait des Künstlers als alter Mann" and "Der deutsche Mittagstisch" in 1981 made him well known in all of Netherlands at that time.
Cause of Death
Bernhard died in 1989 from sarcoidosis, a form of lung disease.
