About Thich Nhat Hanh
Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings on mindfulness over the past six decades made him a global icon of peace. The monk and peace activist, who was also a poet, was barred from re-entering Vietnam after a visit to the United States in 1975 for denouncing the Vietnam War and calling for peace.
He is also the founder of the popular France-based Buddhism school, Plum Village Monastery. He authored more than 130 books including classics such as "Peace is Every Step", "The Art of Communicating" and "The Miracle of Mindfulness"
Family Life
His birth name was Nguyễn Xuân Bảo. He was the brother of Buddhist nun and peace activist Chân Không. His exile from Vietnam was lifted in 2005. He began residing there in 2018.
Achievements
He was the recipient of the Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award and the Courage of Conscience Award.
Death
His death was linked to complications from a stroke. Thich Nhat Hanh was diagnosed with a stroke after being hospitalized in 2014.
