About Tedros Adhanom
Tedros Adhanom is a successful Ethiopian microbiologist who is known for his extensive researches on malaria and other sicknesses. In 2017, he was appointed as World Health Organization’s Director-General.
Prior to the appointment, Adhanom had held some high-profile positions in his native country including the Minister for Health, and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
During his time with Tigray Regional Health Bureau in 2012, he helped reduce the spread of AIDS and meningitis in the Tigray region. In 2020, he supervised the management of the 2019-20 deadly pandemic that hit the entire globe.
Adhanom was also instrumental in the fight against the Ebola virus in Africa.
Family
Though he’s not made his family life public, it is reported that he has five children.
Trivia
Upon his appointment as the Director-General of WHO, he became the first African and non-physician to take that position.
