About Tamika Catchings
Tamika Catchings is considered as one of the most successful female basketball players of all-time. She started her professional career in 2002 when she made her debut for the Indiana Fever in the Women's National Basketball Association. She spent fifteen years with the team in which she won the WNBA Championship in 2012.
Mostly used as a small forward, the American basketball legend also played for some popular teams like South Korea’s Chuncheon Woori Bank Hansae, Spartak Moscow in Russia, and Turkish side Galatasaray.
International career
Catchings played for the United States’ junior women basketball team before helping the senior side to win the World Championship in 2002. Before retiring from international duties, she won a total of four gold medals at the Olympic Games and two World Championships.
Other works
This basketball star has gained many lovers for her charity works. In 2004, she created a non-profit organization named ‘Catch the Stars Foundation’ which provides fitness clinics, and basketball camps for deprived children.
In 2017, she bought a tea company called ‘Tea's Me Café’. That same year, the Pacers Sports & Entertainment hired her to work as their Director of Player Programs and Franchise Development.
Family
She followed in the footsteps of her dad Harvey Catchings, who was a popular basketball player. She has a sister named Tauja who’s also a basketball star. This celebrity has been married to Parnell Smith since 2016.
Education
She studied at Stevenson High School before attending the University of Tennessee to read Sports Management.
Achievements
Catchings was selected into ten All-Star teams, and was named the MVP at the 2012 WNBA Finals. A year before that, she was named the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award. She was also voted the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year five times. In 2020, Catchings was elected into the famous Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
Trivia
Between 2012 and 2016, she worked as the WNBA Players Association’s President.
