He also served as the Chairman and CEO of BP Capital. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2003.

He married Toni Brinker in 2014. Prior to that marriage, he had been married to four different women, including Madeleine Paulson. He had four children from his first marriage to Lynn O'Brien. He adopted one of the daughters of his second wife Beatrice Carr Stuart.
