About Swizz Beatz
Kasseem Dean, popularly known as Swizz Beatz, is an American hip hop artist, DJ, record producer and entrepreneur. He began working with famous rapper, DMX when he was eighteen years old, helping him gain grounds in the American music industry. He later signed Cassidy to his own record label – Full Surface Records. He also signed other stars such as Eve and Mashonda.
His record production credits include DMX’s Ruff Ryders Anthem, Eve’s Gotta Man, Beyoncé’s Check on It and Jay-Z’s Jigga My Nigga.
His Personal Life/Family Life
He was born to an Eritrean father and an African-American mother. His uncles, Waah and Dee Dean were co-CEOs of Ruff Ryders Entertainment, DMX’s family’s record label.
He was married to his record label signee, Mashonda Tifrere from 2004 until 2010. He married singer Alicia Keys in 2010 and they have had children together – Egypt and Genesis.
Achievements/His Awards
In 2010, he received the “Producer of the Year” award at the BET Hip Hop Awards. His collaboration with Jay-Z on his single, On to the Next One, also won him a Grammy Award for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group” in 2011.
He has been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards (1 win) and he has won an Urban Music Award for Producer of the Year.
His Highlights/Legacy
He has released a studio album and a compilation album, while he has produced songs and albums for Busta Rhymes, DMX, Beyoncé, Jay Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Eve and Whitney Houston.
