About Sun Myung Moon
Sun Myung Moon was a prominent Korean religious figure globally known as the founding father of the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, now known as the Unification Church, in 1954.
He was of the opinion that the Cold War, which he described as a conflict between communism and democracy, was the last battle between Satan and God. Throughout his teaching, he called for the unification of the Korean countries, as well as family-oriented values.
Other activities
Aside from his religious works, Moon was also a business executive. In 1963, he founded the Tongil Group. They group had operations in the tourism, manufacturing, publishing, and pharmaceutical sectors. He also supported other businesses like the News World Communications.
Family
He was raised together with seven siblings. He was married to Choi Sun-kil from 1945 to 1957. Three years after his divorce, he wedded Hak Ja Han. He was survived by 16 children including Heung Jin Moon, Hyun Jin Moon, and Hyung Jin Moon.
Education
He had his tertiary education at Waseda University where he read electrical engineering.
Decorations
In 2012, he was posthumously honored with the National Reunification Prize by North Korea.
Trivia
After converting to Christianity at age 10, he became a member of the Presbyterian Church.
In 1947, he was given a five-year jail sentence after he was found guilty of spying on North Korea.
