About Stephen Huneck
Stephen Huneck found fame as a wood carving artist and author. He worked as an antiques dealer alongside his wood carving, which he realized could be profitable after a man paid him $1000 for a piece of work he found in his (Huneck’s) truck. Initially, he focused his work on social commentary but later, he changed to dog carvings as a tribute to his dogs helping him get out of a coma at the hospital. As an author, he is known for his children’s book series revolving around his real-life dog, Sally. He established Dog Mountain in Vermont, which is home to the famous Dog Chapel, an art gallery and dog sculptures.
Family Life
He was married to Gwen Huneck who helped him manage Dog Mountain. She took over from him after his death until her own death. His brother, Jonathan Ide took over its management afterwards.
Death
He battled with depression after he was forced to lay off his employees in January 2010. He committed suicide by shooting himself on January 7, 2010.
