About Stein Eriksen
Stein Eriksen, known as the "godfather of free skiing," was the first male skier from a region other than the Alps to win an Olympic men's Alpine gold medal. He was able to successfully parlay his love of skiing into a profitable lifetime profession.
Family Life
His father, Marius Eriksen, was an Olympic gymnast who participated in 1912. He has an alpine skier for a brother named Marius Eriksen, Jr.
Career
He shot to fame at the 1952 Oslo Olympic Winter Games, where he won gold and silver in the giant slalom and slalom events, respectively.
At the 1954 World Championships, he won three gold medals two years later.
He directed the ski schools at several slopes, including Boyne Mountain and Pine Knob, post his racing career.
Honors
The first alpine skier to take home world championship "triple gold".
He received a Royal Norwegian Order of Merit knighthood.
