About Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly, also known by the nickname "Dada", is a retired Indian cricketer known for being a former captain of the Indian national cricket team as well as for his impressive career with a number of teams, most notably the Bengal cricket team. Among his biggest achievements include leading India to the finals of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup and transforming the Indian team into one of the most successful teams in the world. By the time he retired from cricket, he had become one of India's most successful captains of all time.
Family Life
He was born to Nirupa and Chandidas Ganguly. He is the younger brother of Snehasish Ganguly, who was also a renowned cricketer. In 1997, he got married to his longtime girlfriend Dona Roy.
Trivia
His father was one of the richest men in the Indian city of Calcutta.
As a child, he was often called the "Maharaja", which means the “Great King”.
In 2004, the Government of India honored him with one of the nation’s highest civilian awards, the Padma Shri.
