About Sophie Kerttu Scott
Sophie Scott is a celebrated neuroscientist from England. Most of her research works are on speech and communication. She’s best known for her association with the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience of the University College London (UCL) where she has served as the director.
Before moving to UCL, Scott worked with the Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit of the Medical Research Council. In the 2010s, she was made a Senior Fellow of the Wellcome Trust charity organization at UCL.
Family
The neuroscientist was raised by her parents Christine Winnifred Scott and Colin Mountford Scott.
Education
Scott had her pre-college education at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Blackburn, and Westholme School. She later studied at the University of Westminster (formerly Polytechnic of Central London).
Decorations
In 2020, she was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Prior to that, Scott was appointed a Fellow of the British Academy, as well as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Trivia
She’s also known to be a standup comedian.
This famous scientist has appeared on a number of radio shows including “The Infinite Monkey Cage” and “The Life Scientific”.
She also addressed the TED conference in 2015.
