About Sonja Henie
Sonja Henie was a famous figure skater from Norway who, as of March 2022, had won more World and Olympic titles than any other female athlete in the sport. Her journey to fame began at age ten when she won the Norwegian championship.
She became a global figure in 1927 after winning her first World title. Before retiring from the sport, the renowned skater had won a total of ten World championships, three Olympic gold medals in the singles category and six European championships.
Acting career
Henie also gained some fame as an actress. During her career in the movie industry, she appeared in many films and TV shows but was best known for her role as Krista Nielsen in “My Lucky Star”. Other works that she appeared in were “Thin Ice” and “Iceland”.
Family
She was the daughter of Selma Lochmann-Nielsen and her husband Wilhelm Henie, who was a popular sportsman. She was married to Niels Onstad. Before that, she was married to Winthrop Gardiner Jr. and American businessman Dan Topping.
Recognitions
She was inducted to many halls of fame including the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
Trivia
During her time as a skater, she was trained by Howard Nicholson.
She was a member of the Oslo SK skating club.
She was the subject of the 2018 film titled “Sonja – The White Swan”.
