Skal Labissière has been able to surmount a great physical and emotional trauma as a child. Growing up, he played for teams in the NBA including the Sacramento Kings.
Background
He was born in Port-au-Prince in Haiti in 1996, he started playing basketball while in high school, at Collège Canado-Haïtien. However, having survived the 2010 Haiti earthquake despite being trapped under debris, Labissière, his brother and his mother moved to Tennessee where he continued pursuing his passion.
Career
Labissière became the highest-drafted Haitian since 2001 when he was drafted in 2016 by the Phoenix Suns but was traded to the Sacramento Kings that same day. He scored an average of 12 points per game in his first season. However, he was traded in 2019 to the Portland Trail Blazers where he averaged 20 points per game but was released at the end of the season and became a free agent. In March 2022, he signed with Puerto Rico team Cangrejeros de Santurce.
