About Simón Bolívar
Simón Bolívar (Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco) was a Venezuelan politician and military leader.
His Legacy
He was responsible for the establishment of Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia as sovereign states, independent of Spanish rule. He became President of all those new nations and Bolivia was named after him.
His Personal Life
He was born into an aristocratic Creole family. He was married to María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaiza. She died from yellow fever and he swore never to marry again. He had a mistress, though, in later years named Manuela Sáenz. He had no children.
