About Sidney Bechet
He was an American musician who impressed people as a clarinetist, a jazz saxophonist and a composer and is believed to be one of the most relevant soloists in Jazz during his time.
Personal Life
He was born to a shoemaker by the name Omar. His father was also into music and played the flute. He was one of the five sons of Omar and they all dabbled in music. His brothers had a band which he became part of at an early age of six. He was known to be tough and stubborn. In 1918, he married Norma Hale but it ended in about eleven years then he married Marie-Louise Crawford five years later. In 1942, the marriage fell apart. In 1951, he made Elizabeth Ziegler his wife.
Career
He released a lot of singles including “Got the Bench, Got the Park (But I Haven’t Got You)”, “Dutch Swing College Blues” and “Who’s Sorry Now” among others
Death
He was diagnosed with lung cancer and in 1959, it claimed his life.
