He was an American author whose writings between World War One and World War Two have been impactful in the history of American literary works.
Personal Life
He was the son of Irwin McLain Anderson who was a harness maker and Emma Jane Smith who was a union soldier. He had six siblings and was the third child of his parents. Born into an average family, before he was a year old, the whole family relocated. They had to leave town again after his father started struggling with alcohol addiction and financial hardship. He started struggling in school due to the issues at home and eventually dropped out. In 1895, his mother died from tuberculosis related complications. At this time, his father had started disappearing from time to time till it became more. After about twenty years of disappearing from his children, he died.
Career
Some of his literary works include “Marching Men”, “Dark Laughter”, “Horses and Men” and “A New Testament”.
Death
In 1941, he started feeling sick on a cruise and complained of stomach ache. He found out he had peritonitis. He cut the cruise short and went to the hospital with his wife but he didn’t make it. It was later discovered during an autopsy that the ailment was a damage caused by a swallowed toothpick.
