About Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Due to his high level performance, Shareef Abdur-Rahim ended his college education prematurely to join the NBA in 1996. He was drafted into the league by the Vancouver Grizzlies. After his first season, he was named into the All-Rookie First Team. After five years with the Grizzlies, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks where he had the chance to feature in the NBA All-Star.
Used as a small or power forward, Abdur-Rahim played for other renowned NBA teams like the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Sacramento Kings.
International career
Considered as one of the top players of his era, the Marietta-born basketball star played for the United States on many occasions. He helped them to win gold at the Olympic Games in 2000.
Post retirement
In 2008, the same year he announced his retirement, Abdur-Rahim was named as one of the coaches of his former team, the Sacramento Kings. He has also served in different positions for the franchise’s affiliate team, the Reno Bighorns. In 2018, he was elected to lead the NBA G League, replacing Malcolm Turner.
Parents, siblings, wife and children
His parents, William and Aminah Abdur-Rahim, had eleven other children. He’s the brother of basketball star Amir Abdur-Rahim. He has been married to Delicia and their two children are Samiyah and Jabri. The latter is also popular in the sport.
