Shabana Azmi is a celebrated Indian actress and women’s rights activist who has over the decades starred in over a hundred Hindi films, including 1974's Ankur, 1982's Arth and 1999's Godmother. In 2013, she portrayed the character Abhilasha Grewal on the popular Indian TV drama series 24. She is regarded as one of the greatest Indian actresses of all time.
Personal Life
She was born to actress Shaukat Azmi and renowned poet Kaifi Azmi. She got married to screenwriter and poet Javed Akhtar in 1984.
Awards
Throughout her career, she has received a string of national and international awards, including several National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards.
In 2012, the Government of India honored her with the country's third-highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan.
