About Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney was a celebrated Irish poet regarded as one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. One of his best known works isDeath of a Naturalist, which is a collection of 34 short poems published in 1966. His other famous works include 1996's The Spirit Level and 2006's District and Circle.
Achievements
One of his biggest achievements was winning the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature. The following year, he was appointed Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres. His other notable awards include the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize in 1968 and the Golden Wreath of Poetry in 2001. The Griffin Trust honored him with the Lifetime Recognition Award about a year before his death.
Trivia
The subject of his famous poem Mid-Term Break was the death of his brother, Christopher, who was killed at the age of 4 in an accident.
