About Scott Niedermayer
The retired Canadian ice hockey defenseman Scott Niedermayer played for the New Jersey Devils and the Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks in the National Hockey League. He was known for his long skating stride and ability to lead or join an offensive rush. He is the only player in history to have won every major North American and international championship.
Family
Born in Edmonton, Alberta to Bob and Carol Niedermayer, he got an early start to figure skating by his mother. This helped develop the skills he needed to be an ice hockey legend.
He got married to Lisa Ressler and they share four kids.
Career
Between 1989 and 1992, he was a member of the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL). During the 1991-92 season, he made his NHL debut with the Devils, playing four games. After a full-season with the team the following year, he was named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team with 11 goals and 40 points.
He helped the Devils win their second Stanley Cup in 1999-2000, defeating the Dallas Stars.
Trivia
By scoring two shorthanded goals during the playoffs, he tied the record for most shorthanded goals by a defenseman.
Achievements
On November 28, 2006, he played his 1,000th career game against the Edmonton Oilers. During the regular season, he set career highs with 15 goals, 54 assists, and 69 points and was named a First Team All-Star.
