About Sandy Koufax
Sandy Koufax, was born as Sanford Braun, is a former professional baseball pitcher of American origins. He is best known for being left-handed, and for being one of the youngest players to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Koufax is also regarded as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball.
He was the pitcher for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers of the Major League Baseball during between 1955 and 1966.
Family Life
Koufax was born to Jack Braun and Evelyn Lichtenstein, however they divorced when he was only 3-years-old. His mother Evelyn remarried a man named Irving Koufax, giving him his surname instead. He's been married to Anne Widmark (1969-1982), Kimberly Francis (1985 -1998) and Jane Purucker Clarke.
Achievements
In 1963, he was named the "Most Valuable Player" by the National League and an All-Star for six seasons.
In 1972, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame at the young age of 36, making him the youngest inductee as at that time.
He was named "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated magazine in the 1965 World Series and has won the "Hickok Belt" twice.

He was initially noted for being a skilled basketball player before he began his baseball pitching career in college.
He became the centre of attention in the World Series when he declined to pitch Game 1 because he was observing the Jewish religious holiday of Yom Kippur.
