About Samuel Colt
Samuel Colt was an American inventor, gun manufacturer and industrialist known for a number of inventions, most notably the revolver. He founded one of the most famous firearm brands in the world, the Colt's Manufacturing Company in 1855. He was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006.
Personal Life
He married Elizabeth Jarvis Colt in 1856. He and Elizabeth had four children, including Caldwell Colt. The marriage lasted until his death in 1861.
Trivia
During his lifetime, he was one of the wealthiest men in America. At the time of his death, his estate was estimated to be worth about $15 million, which in 2009 was equivalent to $350 million.
He made brisk business supplying firearms to both the North and the South during the American Civil War.
