About Samuel Adams
Samuel Adams was an American revolutionary patriot, politician, statesman and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States remembered for his instrumental role in organizing the Boston Tea Party and for being one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence. He is also remembered for being the second cousin of the 2nd President of the United States John Adams.
Family Life
He was one of the 12 children born to Mary and Samuel Adams, Sr. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Checkley in 1749. Elizabeth bore him six children, only two of whom survived into adulthood. The marriage lasted until Elizabeth’s death in 1757. He married his second wife Elizabeth Wells in 1764. The marriage produced no children.
Trivia
He was the 4th Governor of Massachusetts, and served in that position from 1794 to 1797.
Only two of his 11 siblings survived past the age of three.
