The jazz and Big Band artist was one of the most prominent composers during the 1940s. He recorded several releases on Columbia Records, Bell Records, RCA Records and Vocalion Records.

He was an alumnus of Rocky River High School and Ohio University.
Music career
Kaye’s music career started after the Japanese declaration of war on the United States in December 1941 when Kay and Don Reid collaborated on the song “Remember Pearl Harbor”. The song was recorded with the Swing and Sway band, whose members included singers Don Cornell, Tommy Ryan and Nancy Norman.
He composed other songs such as “I Gotta See a Dream About a Girl”, “The Midnight Ride” and “I Miss Your Kiss”.
The musician also performed on television shows such as “The Sammy Kaye Show”, which aired on CBS television from 1951-52 and “So You Want to Lead a Band” on ABC television from 1958 -1959.
